NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence High School varstiy football team's opening night game against Brearley High School was postponed on Thursday due to excessive lightning.
The contest was rescheduled for Friday at 3 p.m.
The Pioneers were leading, 7-0, in the first half when on-field officials saw the first bolt of lightning. The NJSIAA rules state that a game must be delayed a minimum of 30 minutes following a lightning sighting. After waiting approximately an hour for the weather to subside, both coaches and officials agreed to delay the game to Friday.
The Alternative Press will have a complete recap of the game when it is complete.
