NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The 137 members of the New Providence High School Marching Band competed in the USBands New Jersey State Championships on Sunday, October 28th at South Brunswick High School. The competition was originally scheduled for Saturday October 27th at High Point Solutions Stadium on the campus of Rutgers University but rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The Pride and Class took the field at South Brunswick and placed first in Group 6A receiving special awards for Overall Best Visual Performance, Overall Best General Effect (tying with Jackson Memorial), Overall Best Percussion and Overall Best Color Guard.

This is the 11th State Championship garnered by the band over the past 17 years, and earned the band a place at the USBands A Class National Championships in Allentown, Pennsylvania at J. Birney Crum Stadium on Saturday, November 3rd.

There were five schools from surrounding states in the Group 6A National Championship, with 11 schools overall in the competition.  Drum Majors Alexis Fischbeck (Class of 2019) and Mia Fusillo (Class of 2020) led the New Providence Marching Band in their show titled “The Energy Within”, an original composition by Craig Fitzpatrick, arranged by Michael Niedziejko and Joseph Itkor.  The New Providence “Pride and Class” received the top honor of USBands Group 6A National Champion along with special awards for Best Overall Effect, Best Overall Visual Performance and Best Overall Color Guard.

Marching Band Director Mr. Michael Niedziejko, said, “The work ethic of this band has been tremendous ALL season.  It is so nice that they were rewarded for all of the sacrifices they make and all of the hard work they demonstrate.  Special thanks are extended to Mrs. Laurie Barletta and Mrs. Angela Suske for working to get events rescheduled along with marching band parents, students and staff."
