WHIPPANY, NJ - New Providence Varsity Girls Soccer team traveled to top-seeded Whippany Park Saturday morning to take on the team that was ranked first in North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1.
After playing to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation, New Providence found an opportunity, with 30 seconds left in the first ten minute overtime period, to win the game.
With New Providence putting pressure on the Whippany Park defense, sophomore Erin Fay popped a shot over the heads of the defense and into the goal. Ashley Evangelos was credited with the assist.
For the Lady Pioneers, goalkeeper Katie Vigilante had 5 saves.
New Providence advances in the Section 2 State tournament, with a game expected against Group 1 rival Glen Ridge later this week.
