The families who live in the Pine Way neighborhood got together to fundraise for one of our group homes on their block. They thought it was a great idea – providing their kids with the opportunity to have fun while reaffirming the importance of helping others.
One Saturday in July they set up a stand and offered homemade lemonade for $1 a cup. There was a sign and literature telling their customers all about Our House and the needs of the adults with developmental disabilities that live in their neighborhood. With a passion for helping their Our House neighbors and the delicious lemonade – they brought in $1,468! “We were absolutely thrilled with the community’s support and encouragement,” said Andrew Gordon, one of the parents who took part in the effort. The monies raised will go towards the handicap accessible renovation due to commence in the Spring of 2012 in the Pine Way neighborhood, the total cost of this project is $188,000 and Our House Foundation along with community members have raised $50,000 thus far.
