NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence High School Marching Band has been named national champions in its division at the USBand Association National Championships held on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, PA. The band placed first in Group 6A with a score of 96.838, and received special caption awards of Best Color Guard, Best Overall Effect, Best Visual.

The band, led by director Michael Niedziejko and assistant director Don Baker, is comprised of 156 students in grades 9-12. Along with this championship, the band was awarded the 2016 State Championship title and won the prestigious Yamaha Cup, as well as compete in local competitions, plays for football games, and marched at Disney World.

"Boy did they shine!" said Mayor Al Morgan. "They are one amazing group. I'm really proud of our students -- in awe of the gifted and dedicated leadership and truly impressed with all the wonderful supportive parents who helped make this all happen. Great job!"

Morgan added, "They are the definition and shining example of Pioneer Spirit! Congratulations New Providence Pride and Class!"
