NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Local residents can indulge their sweet tooth and listen to music at the New Providence Music Boosters Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, March 25 at 6:50 p.m. The annual event is held as part of the March celebration of “Music in Our Schools Month.”
This year’s "Oh So Sweet" Ice Cream Social highlights to parents, friends and the community at large the music department in the New Providence schools. There are 2,200 children who participate in the NPSD music programs; there are 30 organizations and only 12 teachers providing the music instruction.
The one-night-only concert held in the New Providence High School Auditorium will star New Providence students in grades 5-8 from the New Providence Middle School, Allen W. Roberts Elementary and Salt Brook Elementary schools. These students will perform a “Pops” concert featuring the respective choruses, bands and orchestras.
In addition, the New Providence Music Boosters Ice Cream Social will serve up ice cream provided by Zita’s in the New Providence High School Cafeteria. Proceeds raised will be donated directly to benefit the school music programs.
Tickets for $5 tickets can be purchased online at https://www.register.communitypass.com/newprovidence (select NP Music Boosters after you log in), or at the door. Note that online ticket sales close at 5 p.m. on the day of the event.
The New Providence Music Boosters is an organization comprised of parents and friends whose purpose is to support the New Providence School District Music Department. Their goal is to enhance the music education experience of every child in the school system in grades Pre-K-12. Money raised from the activities of the NP Music Boosters through membership, donations, Market Day and annual fundraisers such as the Ice Cream Social are donated to the students and teachers of the NP School District to supplement the Music Department’s budget in the form of scholarships, equipment and special performances.
