NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The Borough has been named to the SafeWise listing of the 100 Safest Cities in America for 2017.
New Providence, which had not been previously ranked, was listed as the 67th safest city. The listing showed the township with a population of 12,458, a violent crime rate of 0.00, and a property crime rate of 4.50 per 1,000 residents.
To compile this report, SafeWise analysts considered the most recent and complete FBI crime data from 2015 to rank these cities, which all have a minimum population of 10,000 people. They added local public safety and community health programs to the mix, according to the release.
Chatham Township ranked 42, a drop of 20 points from last year, and Warren Township ranked 45, two points higher than 2016's list. Berkeley Heights ranked 61 out of 100. Neither Berkeley Heights nor New Providence had been on the previous year's list.
