NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence PAL baseball teams recently began their New Providence Green League season and many teams are also already participating in the highly competitive Cal Ripken district tournament. This year New Providence PAL has six teams competing in the districts. There are some tremendous accomplishments already. The 9U, 10U and 12U PAL baseball teams advanced beyond the pool round and are playing to advance to the state tournament.
The 9U Pioneers lost a close district playoff contest this weekend against Green Brook, but the team played really well and is excited to take the momentum into their regular season. The 10U and 12U teams will begin their district playoffs this week with both teams facing local rival, Chatham. The 12U teams played Tuesday, June 26 in Westfield at Gumbert Park. The 10U team plays Wednesday, June 27, at 5:45 p.m. in Scotch Plains at Booth Field. Come out and support the team.
The teams participating range from the 7U age bracket all the way to 14U this year. The New Providence PAL and the Green League introduced the 7U age division this year, and is thrilled with the high level of participation and excitement about travel baseball at that age. The 7U game includes a mix of coach and child pitching which fosters a balance of competition and skills development.
The New Providence Green League, which features Green and Gold divisions, achieved excellent participation again in 2018. There are more than 200 teams from New Providence and nearby towns playing in the league this year.
Following an excellent run by the New Providence High School team in the state tournament and another great season of baseball within our town recreation league, baseball is flourishing in New Providence.
Let’s go Pioneers!
