NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence PBA is now accepting photographs for a second round of veteran banners. They plan to put them up around Memorial Day 2017. There are about 15 new veterans that are being included and they look forward to many more people being involved.

The cost for printing is being donated by residents and local businesses. “The town and businesses really supported this initiative last year and many heartfelt compliments were received. We are also happy to have the New Providence EMS assist us with this endeavor. The true thanks goes to the men and women who have served our country,” said Detective Mike Hand.

If you are a veteran or if you know a veteran (living or deceased) and would like to participate in the banner program, please call the PBA President, Detective Michael Hand at the New Providence Police Department, 908-665-1120.

Captain Susan DeLuise of the New Providence EMS is assisting with the scanning and production of the banners. They will scan the pictures in at police headquarters and return them to you during business hours, Monday through Friday. To be included, the veteran must have had a personal connection to New Providence at some point in their life.

Their goal is to never charge a veteran who is being honored by his or her hometown. If you would like to donate; please make checks payable to “The New Providence DID” and mail your check to Attn: Detective Michael Hand, 360 Elkwood Avenue, New Providence, NJ 07974. The New Providence Downtown Improvement District is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Coach Bottone Tribute

May 19, 2018

2017 Pioneer football players took on a tall task of filling a lot of open spots with not many returning players. We had 30 kids on our football team who all wanted to be there. With a new head coach who just came on board in late April, we had a lot of things to do without much time. Most people would say being on a 1-9 football team would be no fun and, at times, it wasn’t, but it was the ...

The Evaluation of the College Search

It’s is a bizarre time of year as a college counselor as I find myself at both the beginning and end of this process.  Sophomores and juniors are excitedly and idealistically starting to consider what will be important to them in a school.  At the same time, while only separated by a year or two, my seniors have all committed within the past month to a school and have spent the ...
