The New Providence Police Department issued the following Police Blotter on April 10, 2017:
On April 3, 2017, Patrol Officers responded to the downtown area for the report of an erratic driver. Officers located the vehicle and the driver pulled over into a parking spot on Springfield Ave.
The Officers conducted an investigation into the erratic driving and determined that the driver was under the influence. The driver, Elizabeth Gomes, age 58 of Basking Ridge, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was transported back to the New Providence Police Department and was processed.
She was subsequently released to a suitable adult and has a pending court appearance in New Providence Municipal Court.
On April 4, 2017 at approximately 0445 hours, Sgt. Sretenovic stopped Michael Powell, age 32, of Baltimore, MD for speeding on Union Ave.
While speaking with Mr. Powell, Sgt. Sretenovic developed probable cause to believe the motor vehicle contained a controlled dangerous substance. He conducted a search of the passenger compartment and located suspected marijuana, materials consistent with the distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and a large amount of cash.
Mr. Powell was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and various motor vehicle summonses.
Mr. Powell was released has a mandatory court appearance in Superior Court in Elizabeth.
