New Providence Reds Defeat Bergen Jackals; Stadium Game Next

FAIRVIEW, NJ - The New Providence Reds continued their hot start to the season by defeating the Bergen Jackals, 15-2, on Sunday June 1 in Fairview to improve to 6-1 on the season.

The Reds opened up the scoring by scoring three runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run by outfielder Billy Holden.

In the third inning, the Reds would go on to score five runs to break the game open, which included RBI hits from Holden and first baseman Nick Sommo. Holden finished the day 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored, and Sommo finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run scored.

Infielder Matt Nesto, who just finished his sophomore year playing at Moravian College, added two hits and three runs scored.

Charles Savite and Marc Giacalone made their season debuts for the Reds and both were also instrumental in the win.

Savite who also just completed his Sophomore campaign at Moravian finished the day 2-4 with three runs scored and an RBI and Giacalone, who will be a freshman playing a St. Joseph's University next season finished the day 1-4 with 2 runs scored and two RBI including a homerun in the 7th inning. 

On the mound for the Reds Doug Pastore pitched five innings, allowing one run and scattering six hits while lowering his ERA to 1.69.  Pastore, who also just completed his Sophomore season at Richard Stockton College is now 2-0 on the season.

The Reds now host the 7-1 Teaneck Yankees this Sunday June 8 at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. and admission is free. The Reds earned the right to host the game by winning the 2013 New Jersey Amateur Baseball League Metal Championship.
