NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence School District is proud to announce that Jillian Shadis, Director of Counseling, has received the 2022 New Jersey School Counselor of the Year Award from the New Jersey School Counselor Association (NJSCA). Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Miceli said, “Jillian is a tremendous asset to the students, parents and staff. This recognition is well-deserved!”

The NJSCA describes the School Counselor of the Year program as honoring school counselors who are running a “top-notch, comprehensive school counseling program at either the elementary, middle or high school level.  This year’s school counselor of the year candidates completed an extensive application process and were judged by a panel of counseling professionals on multiple criteria, including school counseling innovations, effective school counseling programs, leadership skills, and contributions to student achievement.”

Shadis said, “I am truly honored and humbled by this recognition, and I appreciate the support that the entire New Providence community has given both me and the School Counseling program throughout my time here.  I could never have achieved this without my talented, student-focused colleagues who support the vision and mission of the Counseling Department. It's truly a team effort!”

Shadis will be recognized at a state reception in the Fall of 2021, and will represent New Jersey at the national school counselor of the year events managed by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) in early 2022.  The ASCA School Counselor of the Year program “honors the professionals who devote their careers to serving as advocates for the nation’s students, helping them achieve success in school and in life.”
