NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- Pioneer senior first baseman Aidan Donnelly would be returning to the baseball team for his second year on varsity.

"Aidan was a strong contributor at first base to our sectional championship last year, and was looking to continue that this year," said New Providence head basketball coach Chris Brodeur. "Aidan stands out as a leader and as a teammate who can be counted on."

New Providence won their second consecutive Section 2, Group 1 Championship title last season with a 3-1 baseball victory over Brearley of Kenilworth.

"My favorite high school baseball memory was winning the sectional championship my junior year," said Donnelly. "Securing the win and then being able to celebrate on the field with the rest of the team and trophy was an awesome experience."

Wearing the NP uniform "means a ton to me," said Donnelly. "I know that when I put on that uniform that I’m representing my town, my school, my family, and of course the team as well. It’s a great feeling to go out on the field and succeed for all these different people associated with the uniform."

TAPinto: A favorite youth highlight in the sport?

Aidan: My favorite baseball memory from my youth was winning the recreation league championship in 6th grade. I felt like I was a huge contributor for the team on both offense and defense and I had a lot of fun with the rest of the guys I played with.

TAPinto: How are you doing during this period of isolation?

Aidan: I’m trying to stay motivated with everything I do whether it be prepare for college, do my schoolwork, or workout. It’s and unfortunate time for everybody but I’m trying to stay positive because I know that this will end.

TAPinto: What will the first thing you do once restrictions are lifted?

Aidan: The first thing I’ll do is get together with my friends and try to hang out like normal again.
