NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Three groups of students were honored with Certificates of Excellence at the Board of Education meeting on March 30. Board member Joseph H. Walsh presented the certificates to each student who attended the meeting. 

Andrew Jacobs and Licheng Yang, each received a Certificate of Excellence after having won gold keys for their original artworks in the northern New Jersey region of The Scholastic Art and Writing competition. They are finalists in the national competition. 

As he made the award presentation Walsh said, "New Providence is very proud of their achievement and encourages them to continue with their arts education."

MacLaine Barré-Quick, Julia Dabrowska, Dorian Ho, Jade Navarro and Cameron Xu each received certificates in the area of music.  "Students who excel in music exhibit a high level of motivation and work ethic to develop their talents," said Mr. Walsh. He gave certificates to the middle and high school students who were chosen to participate in choirs, bands and orchestras after auditioning for them in the central region of the New Jersey Music Educators Association (CJMEA)

MacLaine Barré-Quick, Julia Dabrowska and Jade Navarro were selected for the CHMEA High School Choir; Dorian Ho was selected for the CHMEA Intermediate Orchestra and Cameron Xu was selected for the CHMEA Intermediate Band.

After presenting the Certificates of Excellence, Walsh said, "New Providence is very proud of their achievements and encourages them to continue with their music education."

Cassandra Barbarisi, MacLaine Barré-Quick, Julia Dabrowska, Emily Del Monte, Ronan Flanagan, Mia Harris, Katherine Ivanov, Alexandra Munies, Manu Nahata, Jade Navarro, Jasmyn Srinivasan and Emma Timpone received certificates after successfully auditioning for membership in the various NJMEA All-State Choirs.

Julia Dabrowska was selected for the High School All-State Mixed Choir; MacLaine Barré-Quick and Jade Navarro were selected for the High School All-State Treble Choir; Manu Nahata was selected for the New Jersey Junior High Honor Choir; and Cassandra Barbarisi, Emily Ronan Flanagan, Mia Harris, Katherine Ivanov, Alexandra Munies, Jasmyn Srinivasan and Emma Timpone were selected for the New Jersey Elementary Honor Choir.

"The have earned special recognition for excellence in music performance. New Providence is very proud of their achievement and encourages them to continue with their music education," said Mr. Walsh.
