New Providence Suspicious Incident

I just received information regarding a suspicious incident that occurred on Friday September 3rd at approximately 10:15am. The incident involved a 10 year old boy walking his dog on Elkwood Avenue who was approached by a middle aged man in a red vehicle (Possibly a Subaru Outback).

Our Detective Bureau have been investigating this incident and report that the incident involved the boy being approached by the vehicle which was traveling east to west on Elkwood Avenue at the intersection of Walton Avenue. The suspect pulled along side the boy and asked how old he was. He then asked if he could get out and pet his dog. The boy became alarmed and ran home. Police immediately checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

The description is as follows:

Middle aged white or Hispanic male, dark spiky hair (described as gelled) medium complexion with a "soul patch" (small patch of hair directly under lower lip).

The vehicle is described as a red hatch back type vehicle, possibly a Subaru Outback.

There is no further description available at this time.

Our patrols will be out in force checking the areas and monitoring schools. Residents are requested to be extra vigilant and immediately report any suspicious incidents to the police department at 665-111 or 911 in Emergencies.
