New Providence Swim Teams Remain Undefeated in Early Season

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ –The undefeated New Providence Pioneers swimming squads kicked off the third week of their regular season on Wednesday against Cranford High School and tomorrow against Governor Livingston High School.

Here is a recap of last week's matches:

Last Tuesday, the boys’ team was victorious against Oratory, winning, 106-64. It was New Providence’s second victory of the season, having defeated Union High School 126-38 in their season opener on Dec. 1. The Pioneers currently sit tied for second place in the North 2 – Group C standings with Bernards (also 2-0).

University of Pennsylvania commit David Hua led New Providence in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.86) and 100-yard butterfly (53.30).

The girls competed in two meets last week against Oak Knoll at home on Dec. 8 (99-71 victory) and away at Kent Place on Dec. 10 (98-72 victory). They currently are first in the Central – Group C standings. Seniors Sara Misiukiewicz and Isabelle Malinowski stood out in each of last week’s matchups.

Last Tuesday, Misiukiewicz recorded impressive times in the 200-yard IM (2:19.74) and 100-yard butterfly (59.08). Malinowski also led in the 500-yard freestyle (5:55.92) and 100-yard breathstroke (1:11.50) against Oak Knoll.

During New Providence’s match against Kent Place, Malinowski led all swimmers at 2:26.95 on the 200-yard IM and at 5:35.93 on the 500-yard freestyle while Misiukiewicz led in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:05.10 and 100-yard butterfly at 1:00.20.

The Pioneers face neighboring Cranford and Gov. Livingston this week.
