NP Girls Beat Brearley 1-0

The New Providence Girls Varsity Soccer team beat their Group 1 and County rivals, Brearley, today by a score of 1-0. The game war originally scheduled for yesterday but they called it off due to weather warnings. New Providence played well and after a physical game got win number 5.

New Providence had a solid rhythm in the first half and they kept the ball away from the goal. Their elite passing and great ball control led to many opportunities and had Brearley running in circles. The only goal of the game coming from a beautiful Gina Caprara cross followed by a Emma Culleton header into the back on the net late in the 26th minute of the first half.

After half time Brearley seemed to get a second breath and controlled the ball more often. In the 17th minute #11 for Brearley rocketed a shot off the crossbar and New Providence then cleared the ball, getting away with a near goal.

Finally after a long battle the ref blew his whistle three times indicating the game was over. Emma with the only goal of the game, giving NP the win. When asked how the team played Tori Crisafi said,

‘I thought we played well, we worked the ball well and we played good as a team. ’

Head Coach Scott Murphy added, ‘I think the biggest factor was that we played with poise and composure. When Brearley came close to our goal we kept our composure and didn’t get nervous. ’

Tomorrow the New Providence girls play in Elizabeth and hope to play as they did today because if they do they will be a hard team to beat.
