NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Our Lady of Peace Church will host "Fortnight for Freedom: Prayers for Religious Liberty" from June 21-July 4.

According to Father Bill Mahon, the event is being held for members of all faith communities to show that they are unhappy with the direction the government is taking religious liberty.

"The government is trying to change 'freedom of religion' to 'freedom of worship,'" Mahon said. He added that if the Obama administration succeeds in getting "Obamacare" passed, it will mean that the Catholic Church has to offer birth control as part of its health benefits and that, Mahon said, goes against the fundamental beliefs of the Catholic faith. To avoid this, he said, the church will be forced to only hire Catholic employees, and to only serve Catholics at such community outreach ventures as Our Lady of Peace's food pantry. Currently, such community outreach programs serve everyone, regardless of their faith, Mahon said.

"Prayers for Religious Freedom" will include weekday mass at 12:10 p.m. followed by the Rosary in front of the church, and 7:30 p.m. evening prayers. On Saturdays and Sundays, the Rosary will be recited after each Mass.
