NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Thursday, Dec. 3, is a big day for the Prestige Diner in New Providence. Food critic Peter Genovese of NJ.com will be visiting the diner, one of 40 semi-finalists in NJ.com's competition to choose the best diner in New Jersey.
The 40 semi-finalists consist of the five diners that received the most online votes in each of four categories (North Jersey, Central Jersey, South Jersey, and the Jersey Shore), plus Genovese's 20 diner picks.
The Prestige Diner took the second spot for North Jersey in the first round of the competition with 2,779 votes, trailing only the Park Wood Diner (3,268 votes) of Maplewood in the section.
Genovese writes at NJ.com that after he has visited the 40 semi-finalists, he will "pick ten finalists, and then you'll be able to vote once more, for a people's choice champion." Genovese will pick the overall winner, and recipient of the title of Best Diner in New Jersey.
Genovese will visit the Summit Diner in Summit in addition to the Prestige Diner in New Providence on Dec. 3.
