NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - When the polls closed on Tuesday, Nov. 6, the unofficial results from machine votes cast in New Providence showed the Borough Council Republican candidates Peter DeSarno and Matthew Cumiskey in the lead over Democratic Candidates John Keane and Rupa Kale. However, these results did not include mail-in ballot results.

The unofficial machine results were reported as follows: DeSarno with 2,636 votes, Cumiskey 2,540, Keane 2,224 and Kale 2,201.

On Wednesday, Nov. 7, County Clerk Joanne Rajoppi updated the results to include the absentee ballots received by election night. The absentee ballots postmarked Election Day can be counted upto Thursday night and the results will be available on the Union County Website on Friday.

The unofficial results including absentee ballots received by election night show that DeSarno and Cumiskey remain in the lead with 2,913 and 2,821 votes, respectively. Keane trails by 112 votes with 2,709 and Kale 2,664.

Upon verification with County Clerk Rajoppi, TAPinto New Providence will update the results on Friday and will verify the number of provisional ballots cast that may impact the final results.
