RAP is a non-denominational interfaith organization based in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood area.  It is a partnership of communities, individuals and houses of worship concerned for the plight of refugees who have been resettled in Union County, New Jersey.  RAP members share their talents, commitment, and good will with newly arrived and settled families based on the guiding principle: “We Choose Welcome”. They work closely with other volunteer organizations and professional agencies to give the most comprehensive support possible to aid refugees in attaining self-sufficiency and integration into the community.  Further, they seek to dispel unfounded fears and distrust of refugees by distributing fact-based, researched information and sharing their first-hand personal experiences.

Members of RAP assist in acclimating refugees to the United States with English language training, tutoring of school children, providing transportation to appointments, to job training and to employment opportunities, as well as providing guidance and support as other challenges arise. Information about the organization and volunteering will be available at the World Refugee Day program.

RAP has recently been awarded the Union County Human Relations Commission (UCHRC) 2018 Unity Award for Achievement by a Faith-Based Organization. The award honors “ordinary individuals and organizations who do extraordinary things on behalf of people of Union County, recognizing their programs, services, activities and efforts to foster human rights and relations; to eradicate bias, prejudice and hate; to promote, advance, and celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our County community; and to touch lives in simple ways with profound impact.”  For more information, visit www.refugeeassistancepartnersnj.org.
