NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - A judge has approved the sale of the New Providence A&P to Acme, according to a report in the Bergen Record.

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company had filed for bankruptcy three months ago. Acme and Stop & Shop are buying 39 New Jersey stores, but many others in the state, including the nearby Union County A & P in Fanwood, will be closing next month. The New Providence location will remain open and convert over to an Acme in the near future.

Denville, South Plainfield, Kenilworth, Clark and Montclair are among the other A & P locations that have been purchased by Acme. The South Orange A & P has been purchased by Stop & Shop.
