Students at Salt Brook School in New Providence demonstrated their artistic talents in the first annual Walk-to-School Poster Contest, presented in partnership with TransOptions, a non-profit organization that supports alternative modes of transportation. Students were invited to design a poster with a slogan that promotes Walk-to-School Day and encourages others to walk or bike to school. The four winners, second graders Lily Posner and Lily Liu, third grader Melody Xu and sixth grader Lauren House, were chosen by Salt Brook and TransOptions staff members based on their style and creativity and the ability of their posters to promote the benefits of walking and riding.  Each winner received a gift card from Investors Bank and their posters are displayed around the school to promote future walk-to-school days.

“We were thrilled to see so much excitement from the Salt Brook students,” said TransOptions President John F. Ciaffone. “It’s evident that there was a lot of thought and creativity behind every poster, and all of them highlight just how important walking is to the community.”

Salt Brook promotes walking and biking to school on a regular basis, drawing attention to important issues such as improved pedestrian safety, increased physical activity, reduced traffic congestion, concern for the environment and an overall sense of community.  The poster contest is one way the school helps make it fun and exciting for students, inspiring them to continue walking or biking all year long.
