NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -- Santa Claus spent a busy weekend in the borough this year. He took part in the Night of 1000 Stars event and Community Tree Lighting at Centennial Park on Friday night, Dec. 6. On Saturday, Santa hopped aboard the New Providence Volunteer Fire Company’s ladder truck for a ride to Fire Headquarters on Floral Avenue, where an enthusiastic crowd of children of all ages eagerly awaited his arrival..

Mayor Al Morgan greeted Santa and escorted him into his temporary headquarters, which featured a fireplace, Christmas tree, fully decorated, with presents piled high in front of the tree, and a comfy chair for Santa to sit.

Once inside, Santa met with children and their parents, talked to them about their “naughty or nice” status, and their Christmas wish list.

The paparazzi -- parents, professionals, grand parents, relatives and friends -- took photos of each exciting moment spent with Santa Claus. At least one adult took a seat on Santa’s lap to share her Christmas list and commemorate the annual tradition with a photo. More than one family gathered around Santa for a special photo to include in a Christmas Card or send by email to friends and family.

Volunteers with the department handed out goodie bags when each child finished his or her visit with Santa and inside the engine bay, members of the auxiliary served hot chocolate and sweet treats to everyone.
