NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The 2019 Holiday Festival kicked off at 6 p.m. on Friday with the annual Christmas Walk, as the bundled-up crowd grew along South Street, everyone gazed upwards with anticipation. Moments later the air was filled with gasps and cheers as Santa Claus appeared atop Provident Bank, waving to the gathering of people below. He climbed down the ladder and on to New Providence Fire Department’s Truck 3. The New Providence High School Marching Band played a joyful mix of holiday classics as they paraded down South Street followed by Santa on the fire truck.
Families and groups of friends were drawn to Springfield Avenue, Adams Shopping Center and Village Shopping Center where they fanned out to experience the Holiday Festival hosted by the New Providence Business Community. There were winter celebrations, an International Village, carolers, fire dancers, stilt walkers, activities, giveaways, ice sculptors, a train, a giant snow globe, and plenty of photo opportunities. “It’s just like real snow!” an attendee exclaimed as she walked past an artificial snow machine set along the sidewalk.
Longtime business owner and sponsor, Kristy Braunschweiger of Braunschweiger Jewelers, was excited about the turn out. “It’s great to see all the people enjoying the night. It’s such a big tradition in town and we look forward to it every year. Lots of planning and effort go into this event and it’s great to see it so well attended.”
“This is an amazing event and we’re so happy to be one of the sponsors of it. My family is here, my kids are walking around with my husband and we all love it,” said new business owner of AIR® Aerial Fitness, Carrie Sharpe.
The Holiday Festival is hosted each year by the New Providence Business Community and the borough. Smiles were wide, hearts were full and excitement about the holiday season was prevalent when the night finally concluded with fireworks sponsored by NP Fuel.
