Some Special Events for New Providence Seniors

New Providence seniors are invited to round out 2012 with some fabulous presentations, events and trips.

Two topics important to seniors and to their loved ones will be presented at the center on November 7, and both are free.

Seniors have the opportunity to learn more about Medicare plans and options as Maria Shulman presents “Medicare Made Clear”.  The talk, held during the center’s 11AM weekly meeting, will help clarify some of the complexities of Medicare so that attendees may make informed decisions for 2013.

Later that evening, Caregivers Coalition will give the talk “The Person Within – The Person Who Is Always There”.  Attendees will learn how to understand and communicate with those who may no longer be able to communicate due to frailty of age, illness or other circumstances.  The 7PM start time is convenient for those who may benefit from the advice but have day time commitments.

On November 12, seniors will pay tribute to and honor our veterans.  A luncheon will be hosted at the NP Senior Center at noon for those who have served in the military, those active in American Legion Post #433 and active members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6259.  There will be a musical performance by Al and Joe Elefante of Elefante Music to create a relaxing afternoon.  Food establishments and restaurants are encouraged to assist in thanking our veterans by donating food for the event.  Please contact the center if you would like to participate.

Several events are planned to help seniors get into the holiday spirit.

Hop on the seniors bus and head west to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse for a day of enjoyment, including three luncheon choices and fine desserts with their annual musical review show A Playhouse Christmas 2012.  The trip is December 3 and the cost is $60.  Reservations are required.

The Middle School Girls Ensemble will entertain at the December 5 Holiday Dinner.  Prime rib and plenty of other festive food will be served.  Reservations are needed, and the cost is $20.

Remembering and sharing memories of “Friends and Friendships” will be held during a facilitated group discussion on Friday November 2 at noon.  Attendees are also encouraged to share on Friday, December 14 “Holiday Traditions, Cookies and Their Recipes”.  These programs are free and festive; seniors of all ages are welcome.

For more information about these and other ongoing programs, such as exercise classes, card games, board games and more, please contact the New Providence Senior Citizens Center at 908-665-0046 or visit it at 15 East 4th Street.  Membership is open to all New Providence residents age 55+.  There are no dues, and guests may attend, space permitting.

Coach Bottone Tribute

May 19, 2018

2017 Pioneer football players took on a tall task of filling a lot of open spots with not many returning players. We had 30 kids on our football team who all wanted to be there. With a new head coach who just came on board in late April, we had a lot of things to do without much time. Most people would say being on a 1-9 football team would be no fun and, at times, it wasn’t, but it was the ...

The Evaluation of the College Search

It’s is a bizarre time of year as a college counselor as I find myself at both the beginning and end of this process.  Sophomores and juniors are excitedly and idealistically starting to consider what will be important to them in a school.  At the same time, while only separated by a year or two, my seniors have all committed within the past month to a school and have spent the ...
