UNION COUNTY, NJ -- Union County is holding several special recycling events during the coming weeks for items that are typically difficult to recycle.
 
Household Hazardous Waste Day
On Sat, Oct. 18, the final household hazardous waste day of the year is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Alcatel-Lucent Technologies parking lot located at 600 Mountain Ave. in New Providence.  Residents can bring old or outdated pesticides, pool chemicals, gasoline, and deck stain to name a few.  Car tires will also be accepted (limit of 8).
 
 
Scrap Metal Recycling
A scrap metal recycling event is being held in Westfield on Sat, Oct. 18 for residents to drop off their metal for recycling. It will be open from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture, etc. Personnel will be on hand to assist residents with removing items from their vehicles.
 
Computer and Electronics Recycling Event
The final electronic waste recycling event for 2014 will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Alcatel Lucent Technologies parking lot located at 600 Mountain Avenue in New Providence. Residents can bring their old or unwanted TV’s, computers, monitors and radios for recycling.

 
Mobile Paper Shredding
On Saturday, Nov. 1, a mobile paper shredding event will be held at Union County College in Cranford. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and residents can bring up to four bags/boxes of confidential documents for shredding.
