SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -The Scotch Plains-Fanwood (SPF) girls soccer team defeated New Providence, 4-1, on senior day at SPF High School.
Alyssa Riporti lead the 13-0-1 Raiders with two goals. After New Providence scored the first goal of the game, the Raiders answered with four goals of their own.
“It’s scary to have played my final regular season home game. I have played here for four years, and now it is almost over,” said Kathryn Cunningham on playing her final regular-season game at Shimme A. Wexler Field.
The Raiders started off slow to begin the game, conceding a goal in the first five minutes, but after that, they began to take control of the game. Cunningham scored the tying goal on a penalty kick. The second goal was off a corner kick in which Alyssa Riporti scored. Tori Baliatico and Riporti added the final two goals for SPF.
“We began the game playing frantically, but after we scored our first goal, the game slowed down, and we played a lot better,” said SPF left back Evelyn Logie.
The Raiders face Union Saturday night in a Union County Tournament semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark.
