BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - It's easy to forget, but the signs are up to remind drivers Springfield Avenue, between Snyder Avenue in the Township and Union Avenue in New Providence, will be closed because of construction. All stores will be open for business.
This is a Union County project and, according to signs on Springfield Avenue and the county website, construction is expected to start Monday, July 31. The work, which is expected to take two months,is being done on a little noticed bridge over a culvert on Springfield Avenue, near Kuntz Avenue.
The detour will take people traveling from Berkeley Heights up Snyder Avenue, to Mountain Avenue and from there to Union Avenue in New Providence. Drivers coming from New Providence will be directed up Union Avenue, to Mountain Avenue and back to Springfield Avenue, either via Snyder or Plainfield avenues.
