Recently I attended Back to School night at my child's school in New Providence. The teacher appealed to the parents for school supplies she did not have due to the budget cuts. She called her request "The Giving Tree" for parents.
I wondered whether our children would not be short of supplies if our Board of Education had not offered the Superintendent a hefty raise. Perhaps that money could have been used for our children's needs. For example, his increase could have supplied the printer paper, glue sticks and other basic needs for that classroom. The struggling taxpayers have already given to the giving tree with the payment of their high taxes. We need to channel our funds to our children.
It is time to stop the madness and speak with our votes.
