TryCAN Offers Soccer & Crafts in New Providence for Special Needs Kids

This fall, New Providence Recreation and TryCAN will offer two recreation opportunities in New Providence for kids with special needs. Registration for both programs may be done through the Recreation website: www.newprov.org/recreation by selecting Online Registration and using the Community Pass registration system.

Saturday Afternoon Soccer (SAS) is a fall favorite for kids ages 7 to 17.  U.K. Elite trainers enthusiastically lead kids in skills and drills and run ability-appropriate scrimmages. The program will run on seven Saturdays beginning Sept. 21 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Lincoln Field. The cost is $60. Those registering by Sept. 8 will receive a shirt.

New this year is TryCAN Crafty Kids which will be held at the Municipal Center Art Room on Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m.  Experienced Recreation instructor Kris Serpico will lead kids ages 6 to 9 in interesting activities at a pace right for the attendees. The seven-class session begins Monday, Sept. 23. The cost for this program is also $60.

Attendees in both programs will be paired with trained TryCAN peer mentors who provide support and encouragement.  Class sizes are limited and sign-ups are on a first-come, first served basis.  New Providence Recreation and TryCAN thank the Knights of Columbus, Council 783 for their support of these and other special needs programs.

TryCAN is a collaboration of several communities offering an array of recreation programs for youth with special needs or those who require accommodation.  No non-resident fees are involved and all are welcome.
