Turner, Urness and Ornovitz Capture Gold; Advancing to Meet of Champions

EGG HARBOR, NJ - Three New Providence athletes qualified at Saturday's Group 1 state track & field championships at Egg Harbor High School to compete in the sport's ultimate event, the State Meet of Champions.

After two days at the Group 1 Championships, Jillian Turner, Andy Urness and Joshua Ornovitz, not only placed in the qualifying top six, but took home the Group 1 title in each of their events. 

Turner qualified for two events, placing first in the 3200 in 11:01.87 and second in the 1600 in 5:00.75 -- both are personal best records.

Urness threw 178-00 for a first place finish in javelin and Ornovitz cleared 14-00, a personal best, to bring home the gold in pole vault. 

That final showcase of the year, the MOC, will take place on Wednesday afternoon at a new site -- Central Regional High School in Bayville.

Track performers Mark PasquarielloKelsey Turner and Cheney Price just missed the mark in advancing to the MOC placing 7th in their respective events. Pasquariello ran the 1600 in 4:24.17 (PR) and the 3200 in 10:02.44. Kelsey Turner ran the 800 in 2:20.00 getting edged out of qualifying for the MOC in the final stretch. Price cleared 11-06 in Pole Vault.

Girls:

4 X 400 Relay placed 18th in 4:25.15;

Javelin Throw: Jordan Detlet placed 20th with a throw of 84-07.

Boys:

400 M Hurdles: Paul Seth placed 19th in 1:00.10;

4 X 100 M Relay placed 10th in 44.81;

Shot Put: Yugou Tsutsumi placed 20th with a throw of 39-10.25.
