SUMMIT, NJ - Two New Providence-based community partners and agencies are part of a group of 15 entities that will receive more than $50,000 in grants from the Junior League of Summit.

The Junior League of Summit is a nonprofit, charitable and educational organization of women who are committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

The 2018 grant recipients include:

  • Bridges Outreach - supplying up to 600 qualifying Summit students with backpacks & school supplies for the 18-19 school year;
  • Chatham Emergency Squad - funding the purchase of two handheld two-way radios; 
  • CivicStory - funding a pilot program assessing videos for classroom use to incorporate civics education through environmental science, creative arts, and humanities;
  • Community Service Association of New Providence - funding grocery store gift cards for families in need;
  • The Connection - supporting the Pathways Financial Assistance Fund for uninsured women with cancer;
  • Family Promise - providing JLS Better Food Bags distributed at two Community Health Fairs; 
  • Good Grief - supporting 222 families with food and supplies through five Nights of Support for an entire year at Morristown-based center;
  • Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss - funding 1 family for a year of Night of Support and training for 20 adult volunteers;
  • MUJC - funding for food, cooking utensils, and supplies to support “Building Community through Caring” program; 
  • Our House, Inc. - funding autistic volunteers to make baked ziti platters and deliver to GRACE’s refrigerator;
  • Overlook Foundation - funding insulin and other medications for HealthStart Clinic patients;
  • Reeves-Reed Arboretum - funding “hands on” Square Foot Gardening Workshops for children and adults for a year;
  • SAGE Eldercare - funding for Meals on Wheels program;
  • Summit Area YMCA - funding 125 backpacks over a 32-week period to children in need through the Family Backpack Pilot Program; and,
  • Summit Department Community Programs - funding one year of healthy snacks and education for Share the Fun Club after-school program.
