On June 5, 2018 at 3:20 PM, the New Providence Police were dispatched to the intersection of Mountain
Avenue and Southgate Road on a report of a two car motor vehicle crash with injuries. A 2004 Toyota Sienna was stopped at a red light facing east on Mountain Avenue and was struck in the rear by a 2006 Chevy Silverado. This collision forced the Toyota Sienna into a telephone pole causing severe damage to the pole. A 72 year old female rear seat passenger of the Toyota Sienna from Berkeley Heights, suffered head trauma and was transported by the New Providence Rescue Squad with Atlantic Paramedics to Morristown Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Toyota Sienna was a 43 year old male from Scotch Plains with a 72 year old male front seat passenger from Berkeley Heights. They were transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital with complaints of chest pain by the New Providence and Berkeley Heights Rescue Squads. The driver of the Chevy Silverado was a 44 year old male from Springfield who was not injured in the crash. The New Providence Fire Department, Berkeley Heights Police and the Union County Police assisted with the crash and road closures. This crash remains under investigation by the New Providence Police Department. The Police Department is asking that any witnesses to the crash to contact Sergeant Stephen Drown at 908-665-1111.
