'Walking Soccer' Demo Class at The Connection Set for July 22

Chris Calveley will lead the 'Walking Soccer class July 22.

SUMMIT, NJ - 'Walking Soccer', a new sports craze which allows older adults, or those with limitations, to play "the beautiful game" in a safe, enjoyable and professionally guided manner, is now available at The Connection with a demonstration class set for July 22, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Instructed by professional soccer player and coach Chris Calvely. 'Walking Soccer' -- first established in 2011 in England, and with 800+ clubs across the world -- is exactly what it sounds like: soccer without the running or impact.

Designed for adults aged 50+, or for any adults who are interested, the no-impact,  joint-friendly, but still authentic and highly enjoyable activity is intended for older adults to become or stay active, get a great cardio workout, improve mobility, flexibility, confidence, and enhance positive aging. Participants are introduced by an experienced, professional soccer coach to movement exercises, proper warm up and stretching techniques, and of course, the basics of Soccer.

In 'Walking Soccer', as one might imagine, no running is allowed. Players can power walk, but are not permitted to jog. Balls cannot be kicked higher than hip height, and tackling as well as over-the-head throw-ins are not permitted. What is allowed is fun, laughter and an energetic workout. While rule number one is no running, the sport is by no means a slow activity.

The Connection's 'Walking Soccer' class is open to men and women of all skill levels. Calvely has years of experience working with children and adults of all fitness and skill levels..

While the demonstration class is free and open to the community, registration is required. A regular weekly class will be held in the Fall, and will be open and free to The Connection’s Total Facility Members. For more information or to register, visit, call Sangeeta Prasad Benbow at 908-273-4242, ext. 133 or contact

The Connection is located at 79 Maple Street.

You Want a Check for How Much!

My first admissions gig was working for a small liberal arts college with a pretty hefty price tag.  Picture me at a college fair: name tag in place, pile of brochures ready to go.  An eager family would walk up and we’d start a conversation.  One of the first questions I’d get from parents was about cost and the moment that $50,000-plus figure left my mouth I ...
