On Wednesday, May 4, at 7 p.m., the Weiss Family Jazz Series will continue at the Westfield Memorial Library with a jazz trio from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey. The Library is located at 550 East Broad Street.
Established with a bequest to the Westfield Memorial Library Foundation, the Weiss Family Jazz Series commemorates longtime library patrons Joseph and Dorothy Weiss.
The May 4 trio includes students Jimmy Merchant on saxophone, John Nunez on guitar and Kyle Duppstadt on drums.
The Mason Gross School of the Arts is the flagship public arts conservatory of New Jersey. It is a community of artists—dancers, filmmakers, musicians, theater artists, and visual artists—who study, teach, create, perform, and exhibit. The mission of the school is to nurture creative talent and instill the insights and skills that future generations of arts professionals need to contribute to the creative and scholarly world.
The final performer in the Weiss Family Jazz Series for 2016 will be jazz singer Marlene Verplanck on October 5.
The program is free and open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders. (MURAL cardholders belong to libraries that are part of the Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries. Check our website to see if your library participates.) To register for the program, visit the library’s website at www.wmlnj.org, click on the Online Calendar, or call 908.789.4090 option 0.
“Leaving a legacy to the library through the Gifts Program or through a donation to the Foundation is a wonderful way to commemorate a loved one,” said Library Director Phil Israel. “Organizations and businesses can also participate. A gift from an organization means recognition for its accomplishments throughout the year, and a gift from a business is a unique way to recognize retirees, founding days, or other special events.”
For more information on the Gifts Program, contact Mr. Israel at 908-789-4090 extension 4119.
