MILLBURN, NJ - New Providence senior Owen Smith took first place in the NJSIAA District 16 Championships on Saturday at Millburn High School. Smith, now 33-1, wrestled Rob Saum of Watchung Hills (32-5) 6 to 2 in the 152 pound final.  

Smith will advance to the Region IV Tournament where he will be joined by teammates Joe Delia (170 lbs, now 28-4 on the season) and Nadeem ElMahroukey (195 lbs, 24-10 on the season), who advanced as second place finishers.  

Delia lost in a close 4-3 decision to Vincent Mattaliano of Watchung Hills in the finals. ElMahroukey lost by pin (1:43) to Scott Fernandes of Voorhees in the final.

Jack Wichtendahl will also advance as a third place finisher over Michael Marcus of Newark Academy in the 106 pound weight class.

Region Wrestling, which takes place at Union High School for Region IV will begin on Wednesday for Delia, ElMahroukey and Wichtendahl. Smith will receive a buy and begin wrestling Friday night.
