Young Entrepreneurs Academy Accepting Applications

Check out why everyone is so excited about YEA!

The Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the extension of the application deadline for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program. YEA! will be accepting student applications from middle and high school students for the 2018 program until Dec. 15.

YEA! is an after-school program that guides students through launching and running their own businesses or social movements. The program will begin in early January 2018, with parent orientation prior, and run through May 2018. Note that this is a change to our original curriculum launch date of Nov, 2017.

YEA! Program Manager Melinda Sanchez is excited about the application extension stating, “We’ve made this adjustment in line with our goal of making YEA! available to as many students in our communities as possible, and in order to accommodate ongoing requests from parents and students who wished to participate and now have the option with our updated schedule.”

YEA! is open to all students in grades 6-12. While in the Academy, students will receive all the necessary tools to launch real, legally-registered businesses. This includes access to experts such as attorneys, accountants, business mentors, and graphic designers. Students will also have an audience with investors for start-up funding, and the opportunity to compete for college scholarships.

Sanchez added, “The entire YEA team and I look forward to working with the bright minds of our young entrepreneurs who have so much to contribute!” Applications can be submitted online by Dec. 15 at www.yeausa.org/apply. The selection process is competitive. YEA! classes will be held at Union Catholic High School from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays from Jan. 9 through May 2. Contact Melinda Donio at ProgramMgr@yeawestfield.org or 856-993-3695 for more information about enrolling in YEA!

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a 501(C) 3 offering groundbreaking classes that teach middle and high school students how to start and run their own businesses. Throughout the class, students develop business ideas, write business plans, conduct market research, pitch their plans to a panel of investors for startup funds, and launch and run their own, fully formed companies and social movements. The project-based program empowers students to take charge of their futures.

Founded in 2004 at the University of Rochester with support from the Kauffman Foundation, YEA! today serves thousands of students nationwide. In 2011, the United States Chamber of Commerce Foundation became a national sponsor and partner of the Academy to help celebrate the spirit of enterprise among today's youth and tomorrow's future leaders. YEA! bridges the business and educational communities to fulfill its mission of teaching more students how to make a job, not just take a job. YEA! is made possible by The Kauffman Foundation, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the E. Philip Saunders Foundation.

I Reported It Myself!

Each year there seems to be more schools relying on self-reported test scores and transcripts on their applications.  While they may, in the long run, streamline the application process I’ve seen them cause a good amount of stress during this already stressful process.  Should an optional test score self-report be filled in?  How do I know whether to mark my class as a ...
