New Providence Democratic Borough Council candidates, Rupa Kale and John F.X. Keane will bring their experiences and ideas to benefit New Providence--a town they are proud to call home. As your representatives on the New Providence Borough Council, they aim to bring growth, while providing transparency and accountability to residents and businesses.
Fiscally-Responsible Economic Growth
Rupa and John are sensitive to the ever-increasing cost-of-living in New Providence. They are both experienced financial professionals, committed to controlling borough costs by reviewing the details in the budget and ensuring that our local taxes are used effectively and efficiently.
They believe in additional transparency in borough spending decisions and bringing high quality services at lower costs.
Rupa and John have heard loud and clear that pedestrian and vehicular safety in New Providence is of paramount importance to residents. They are ready to implement improved standards that make walking, biking, and driving in town safer and smarter.
As a member of the Planning Board for the past seven years and the Downtown Improvement District for the past twelve years, John has a deep understanding of how important it is to implement solutions such as increasing the number of parking spaces and calming traffic for increased safety. Together, Rupa and John will continue to add more solutions and actively seek the feedback of the community to make streets across the borough safer for all residents.
Accessible and Transparent Communication
The borough’s current form of communication does not meet the needs of our residents. Rupa and John will implement methods that provide greater clarity, directness, and connection with the community. These methods would include digital media with live broadcasts of public meetings and events.
As the founder of the New Providence Community Forum on Facebook, Rupa has extensive experience building a vibrant online community that many residents have come to rely on for borough information. Founded in 2014, the forum has grown into a virtual neighborhood where residents exchange timely and valuable information.
Rupa and John will create a more informed and engaged community by improving accessibility and transparency of our communication. As many of you have heard Rupa say “It’s incumbent on the borough to provide timely communication to residents across multiple platforms.”
Go Green with Goals
During their conversations with residents, Rupa and John have frequently fielded questions regarding the new recycling rules. Changes in global regulations and restrictions have had a substantial impact on our local recycling program. These changes are now making it essential for our community to transform our habits and discover new ways to reduce waste.
Rupa and John recognize the opportunities to provide smart shared services in partnership with surrounding towns, Union County, and the state. Some of their ideas include partnering with Summit so New Providence residents can take advantage of the underutilized Transfer Station in our neighboring town as well as planning additional collections through Union County to dispose of items the regular recycling trucks do not pick up. Let’s make New Providence a model city by going green!
