When evaluating candidates for Borough Council, I believe one should consider factors such as: the skill sets that the candidate possesses, level of experience, connection to the community, character and the vision that the individual would bring to the position.
In addition I also feel that it is important for the candidate to have demonstrated a commitment to our Borough and have a passion to ensure that New Providence be a strong, welcoming, caring and compassionate community for all residents.
I believe our community is fortunate to have two individuals like Nadine Geoffroy and Lisa McKnight on the ballot this fall as they both have a demonstrated commitment to our community and record of capable leadership.
Councilwoman Geoffroy has served on Council for the past three years. Prior to that, her community service included participating on the PTA/PTO and serving on the Planning Board. Currently she has a number of council assignments including the areas of Finance, Communications, Public Safety, Diversity and the Municipal Alliance.
As a fellow Councilperson, I have had the pleasure of working and partnering directly with Nadine on a number of occasions. It is during these situations where I have seen her up close and witnessed first-hand the level of care and diligence that she brings to her work. For example, both Nadine and I serve on the important Finance Committee where we have worked closely together during the last two municipal budget cycles. In performing this function, we have worked many tireless hours in support of developing and presenting a budget for the community that maximized our residents precious tax dollars while successfully delivering the level of services that our community has become accustomed to enjoying. During this process, Nadine has displayed thoughtful leadership that has proved to be an asset to our community.
Lisa McKnight also brings a long history of local civic involvement that demonstrates her commitment to helping others and her love for our community. This experience includes serving as a past Treasure and President of the CSA (Community Service Association). A respected organization that does so much good in our community.
As a 27 year resident, Lisa has over the years also volunteered with the PTA at Roberts School and taught religious education classes at Our Last of Peace. From a professional standpoint, Lisa is a Certified Financial Planner here in town.
I sincerely believe Nadine and Lisa will work diligently and listen to the valuable input of residents in order to represent and serve our entire community. Please join me in supporting these two capable and caring individuals for New Providence Borough Council.
