This June there are (3) candidates vying in the Republican primary for New Providence Borough Council. There are however only two qualified candidates who have the experience and leadership who can receive my endorsement and they are Councilman Rob Munoz and Michele Matsikoudis.
Councilman Munoz will be seeking his fourth term on Borough Council. I have had both the honor and privilege to serve on Borough Council with Rob Munoz over my terms in office as your Councilman. We worked together on several strategic committees and learned a great deal from each other. During that time it was a pleasure to work with Rob, to garner insight within challenges we were addressing, or coming up with unique solutions that helped create positive change within our community on specific projects. During his previous three terms in office, Rob has been a part of almost every committee and work stream within the Borough operation which makes it difficult to list all of the accomplishments and value that he has led or helped guide but the list is an impressive one.
Rob was part of the original committee that oversaw the assessment and redevelopment of every park and field project that has been completed throughout the community. These projects include the renovation of Hillview Field, Lincoln Field, the NP Community Pool Basketball Courts, Jaycee Park, and the gem of them all, the redevelopment of Oakwood Park. These facilities are utilized by every recreational program within our community. Rob served on the Executive Committee within New Providence, Millburn and Summit for the Shared Dispatch Center that has made all three member communities safer and improved dispatch and response times for Emergency Responders. Rob was involved with responding to all of the mandates within Affordale Housing that the Borough has had to contend with. Rob also introduced the historical method of marketing the alcohol consumption licenses which resulted in the 3 restaurants leveraging these licenses as well as Harlee’s which is due to open late this spring. In addition Rob is extremely active within Troop 63 of the local Boy Scouts organization.
I’ve known Michele Matsikoudis for close to 20 years and her involvement, passion and commitment within our community is visible in many places. I’ve worked with Michele on the Community Activities Advisory Board (CAAB) where she provided guidance on improving recreational programs as well as providing insight on improving our parks and facilities. I’ve also worked with Michele on past election campaigns of Councilman Bob Robinson and Councilwoman Nadine Geoffroy, as well as the campaigns of Councilman DeSarno and Councilman Cumiskey most recently.
Michele has over 15 years of experience in corporate finance at Morgan Stanley which she has leveraged within and across her vast community resume. Michele is a whirlwind of community service involvement from her leadership within the New Providence Education Foundation over a six year span, to her being PTA President at Salt Brook and New Providence Middle School she has constantly been at the forefront of improving the education or our children within our community. Through her involvement with local church organizations, Michele has helped Youth Group Program and Summer Bible School programs, the PCNP Mission Trip to Mexico Youth Group, as well as contributed her professional experience within the Career Days within New Providence High School. She has also been a member of the Board of Health and Economic Development Committee.
Michele and Rob represent and epitomize the very best of New Providence which is evident in the many results that you can point to within our community. They can speak to what they achieved not what they think they want to do. They are the only two candidates with a steep investment and contribution within a vast span of involvement. They are the only two candidates in the upcoming Republican Primary worthy of my support and hearty endorsement. Together they are also the only two candidates that have the support and stated endorsement of the majority within current Councilpersons as well as the two most recent former Councilmen in Gary Kapner and myself.
We encourage all residents to do their homework, place value in experience and results and vote for the only qualified candidates, Councilman Rob Munoz and Michele Matsikoudis in the June Primary for New Providence Borough Council.
