Couple Make Easy Move from Morris Plains to New Home at Lantern Hill

Erickson Reality and Moving Services helps with all aspects of moving from selling home quickly to packing.

Moving after many years in a home can seem overwhelming. When Dave and Valerie Marr decided to move a few months ago from Morris Plains to Lantern Hill, an Erickson Living Retirement Community in New Providence, New Jersey, they avoided many of the challenges by using the community’s Realty and Moving Services Program.

Lantern Hill’s Personal Moving Consultant Jennifer Kohan assisted the Marrs with their move from start to finish. She traveled to their home and customized a moving plan tailored specifically to their needs including helping them select a real estate agent, moving company, senior move manager, and other vendors, in addition to implementing Lantern Hill's pre-listing home inspection program.

“It worked just like Jenn told us it would,” said Dave. “She coordinated all the resources and oversaw the entire process.”

Kohan connected the Marrs with a Lantern Hill preferred realtor who is an expert in the sale of homes in Morris Plains. They had three offers on their house just three days after listing it.

“Our realtor knew the market, and we had a bidding war,” said Valerie.  The house sold for more than $15,000 over asking price.

“Customers benefit from using our preferred real estate agents and usually sell their home quickly. They benefit from having their homes professionally staged and photographed, aggressive marketing tools, and competitive pricing to sell at the best price,” said Kohan.

As part of the complimentary service Kohan provides, she assisted the couple with planning the placement of their furniture through the use of a customized floor planning tool.

“It is a big help to see the how your pieces of furniture look in your apartment home,” said Valerie.

“It’s my goal to make the move to Lantern Hill as stress-free and seamless as possible for our residents so that they can exchange home maintenance for vibrant, active, worry-free living,” said Kohan.

The majority of future residents choose to use one or more of the services offered by Kohan and the Erickson Realty and Moving Services program.

The Marrs are now settled into their new home at Lantern Hill and embracing the community's activities and social life. Dave is secretary of the Resident Advisory Committee on campus and is a member of Lantern Hill’s Bell Chime Choir. The Choir recently held a recital on campus and is tentatively booked to perform at the New Providence’s Holiday Walk in December.

Valerie has arranged hall parties, similar to block parties, for her neighbors to get to know each other. She is also secretary of Lantern Hill’s Health and Safety Committee and still volunteers for charitable organizations in Morristown. Recently, she was co-chair of the scholarship committee for the Morristown Medical Center.  This year, she is working with the women’s association for the Morristown Medical Center on the planning of its 250th anniversary.

“Now’s the time to sell your home and move to Lantern Hill,” said Kohan.  “Phase Two will open at the end of this year and add 114 independent living apartment homes to campus. Our beautiful community is fulfilling a need for people who want to stay in the area when they retire and live a maintenance free and active lifestyle.”

Lantern Hill is a distinctive senior living community by Erickson Living, a leading developer of continuing care retirement communities.  The scenic 20-acre campus is located in New Providence, New Jersey, approximately 30 miles west of New York City. The independent living community provides a vibrant lifestyle to seniors with abundant amenities including three on-site restaurants, an all-season pool and fitness center, art studio, library, theater, transportation, on-site medical center, 24-hour concierge services and secure underground parking. A New Way to Approach Affordable Housing: A Statement from Council Candidates Doll and Baer Peterson

October 16, 2017

Affordable housing is a complex issue that requires communication, transparency, and inclusivity, along with dedicated leadership and coordination between many levels of our local and state governments. As a municipality, we are currently in an ...
