Summer Events For Clients

Many businesses reduce their client events during the peak summer months of July and August because of vacations and varying schedules. However, you can use this to your advantage and plan a small customized event in a nice setting that really sparkles. Keep these tips in mind when planning your next event.

1. Secure a Canopy – Plan your event somewhere that you can get the best of both the inside and outside world. If it’s a nice day everybody will want to be outside but with the chance of a shower you may need to take cover so this guarantees your guests stay dry and your event is a success.

2. Have A Raffle – A raffle is always a great way to get more people to attend your event, and entice new guests! Try to have the raffle item as something ‘current’ like a kindle or a Fitbit. Lastly, always make sure you note that you will be having a raffle in your invitation. A surprise raffle never brought more people to an event, be sure to promote it in your invite.

3. Finger Food – The point of the event is to mingle. Having a sit down meal anchors your guests to one spot. Even if you do not get new business out of this event, you want your current clients to have a good time and meet as many people as possible.  This will also let you speak to more people during your reception.

4. Brevity – Make your event fairly informal and short to reflect the summer season. You don’t need a lot of time to touch base with people. People are more likely to respond yes if they feel they can just stop by without a big commitment and it will boost your turnout.

5. Don’t Go Overboard – Pun intended on this one but literally, do not have an event on a boat. You want to have an outing where people can come in and out, not the case when it’s out on the water. It’s a much bigger commitment for your guests and will limit your response rate. While this might sound great on paper, really review your options before choosing a boat for your next function.

The common theme for most of these tips is to keep it simple and take advantage of the most relaxed season – summer! Enjoy the next few weeks and close some deals at your next event.

You Want a Check for How Much!

My first admissions gig was working for a small liberal arts college with a pretty hefty price tag.  Picture me at a college fair: name tag in place, pile of brochures ready to go.  An eager family would walk up and we’d start a conversation.  One of the first questions I’d get from parents was about cost and the moment that $50,000-plus figure left my mouth I ...
