Free Concert featuring Price, Massenet, Beethoven and Chopin

The Musical Club of Westfield invites the public to a free concert on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. to be held at the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 170 Elm Street, Westfield NJ. The Musical Club of Westfield is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster and encourage good music, to provide performance opportunities for local musicians and to support young musicians from Union county with college scholarships. The club also sponsors the Junior Musical Club for students in grades 8 to 12 from the surrounding communities.

The concert will begin with Florence Price's "Piano Sonata in E minor" performed by pianist Helen Ryba. Florence Price was the first African-American woman to have her music performed by a major orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, in 1933.

Brennan Sweet, violin, and Allison Brewster Franzetti, piano, will continue the program with Jules Massenet's "Meditation" from Thaïs, and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata No. 3 in Eb Major," Op. 12. Pianist Carolle-Ann Mochernuk will close the concert with Frederic Chopin’s "Ballade No. 4 in F minor," Opus 52.

There will be a reception with light refreshments immediately after the concert where audience members will have the opportunity to meet the performers. Additional information about the club can be found by visiting musicalclubofwestfield.org
