The Friends of the New Providence Memorial Library kick off their 2019-2020 series of free concerts this Sunday, September 29 at 3 pm with the Florian Schantz Jazz Combo's Oktoberfest concert, which features polkas and waltzes. This arts program is made possible in part by a 2019 HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
Joey Gillian performs Dino to Doo-Wop: a Musical Story on Sunday, November 17 at 3 pm. Singer Joey Gilligan takes his audience through the era they called the "Fabulous 50s," the decade when music transformed from Big Band to Pop to Rock N Roll. While entertaining us with wonderful musical performances, he will share interesting stories about the singers, along with comedy and facts about the era.
The New Providence High School Jazz Choir will perform a holiday concert at the New Providence Memorial Library on Sunday, December 8 at 3 pm.
The multimedia lecture "Musicals for Lovers" will take place on Sunday, February 2 at 3 pm. Fall in love with the likes of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers, Nelson Eddy and Jeanette McDonald, and Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney. The presentation, which includes film clips and a discussion, is by Sam and Candy Caponegro.
The Light Opera of New Jersey will perform an abridged version of H.M.S. Pinafore on Sunday, March 15 at 3 pm. H.M.S. Pinafore is a comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan.
The Concord Singers, a local women's chorus, will perform their spring concert on Sunday, April 26 at 3 pm, an annual tradition at the New Providence Memorial Library.
