NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - On a sweltering ninety-four degree afternoon this Thursday in the senior parking lot at New Providence High School, the 138 members of the 2018 New Providence High School Marching Band put on their full dress uniforms and congregated in line to climb the riser and stand in a gravity defying formation to take the yearly group photograph.

Over the course of nearly an hour, and carefully guided by Band Director Michael Niedziejko and Assistant Director Donald Baker, they rose up the free standing riser, slowly row-by-row. At the very end the color guard quickly took their place on the bottom row and for only about 30 seconds they stood at attention while the photographer captured the moment.

The theme this year is “The Energy Within,” and while they have finished pre-season practice, the Marching Band will head to Greeley, Pennsylvania next weekend for their annual Band Camp to put the finishing touches on their new show. This year’s band boasts 40 percent band athletes (students who participate in both the Marching Band and a sport) and 33 rookies. This is also the year for the Disney trip, the “Pride and Class” of New Providence will head to Orlando to march at Walt Disney World in the spring of 2019.

You can see the new half-time show, “The Energy Within” for the first time on Friday September 14th at the 7 p.m. football game at NPHS; New Providence High School vs. Bound Brook High School.
