NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Dave's Ice Cream celebrated their grand opening inside of South Street Market on Friday with a ribbon cutting and free ice cream sampling.
Dave Knaik, who has owned South Street Market for over a decade, said he wanted to fill this void since the neighborhood Friendly's closed in 2015. He asked Mayor Al Morgan, who also owns a painting and contracting business, to build him an ice cream bar.
The ice cream bar extends across the front of the store and offers about a dozen different ice cream flavors including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, mint chip, cotton candy, ripe raspberry chocolate chunk, chocolate chip cookie dough, butter pecan, coffee, rainbow sherbet and cookies and cream. You can have your ice cream served in a cup, cone -- or splurge with a sundae or milkshake.
As part of the ice cream bar, Dave's offers a variety of popsicles and ice cream bars, slushies and his popular iced coffee brew.
Locals and visitors, as far as Albany, have been coming to South Street Market for Dave's infamous chicken wings. He cooks up thousands of wings to fill Sunday Football orders. When asked why his wings are so special, he said, "It's the family recipe." He also has his daily regulars that come in for his $2.99 breakfast sandwiches and iced coffee brew.
In addition to breakfast and lunch specials, South Street Market stocks the shelves with the every day assortment of snacks, drinks, and milk .... as well as your on-the-go needs -- including lottery tickets and newspaper.
South Street Market is located at 64 South Street in New Providence, next door to NP Fuel.
