BERKELEY HEIGHTS – It’s all about being a good neighbor.
Tagged as an essential business, Taylor Rental Center has remained open since the Stay-At-Home order was issued in the middle of March. And, according to owner Paul Neuwirth, paying the bills has not been easy. But he feels that they are in a lot better situation than businesses that were forced to close.
In an effort to assist other local business who have remained shuttered, Taylor Rental is planning on donating some of the proceeds from sales this Friday and Saturday. According to Neuwirth, $5.00 from every propane tank that is refilled on either day will be donated to the “Business Aid: Berkeley Heights” fundraising campaign that is being sponsored by Berkeley Heights Business & Civic.
The Business Aid: Berkeley Heights fund will provide emergency assistance grants to the town’s small businesses facing COVID-19 related hardships. The Fund was established by Berkeley Heights Business & Civic inspired by Berkeley Heights resident, Sheryl Manfreda.
According to Dr. Pat Smith, director of Smith Chiropractic, 45 independently owned local businesses have applied for financial grants to help them get through Covid-19 Pandemic that has devastated the Berkeley Heights downtown area. And more than $56,000 has already been raised. But more is needed, according to Neuwirth.
Taylor Rental’s hours during the COVID-19 crisis is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The store is open for both rentals, propane refills, Penske truck rentals and party supplies. With party rentals obviously down due to the crisis, Taylor Rental has kept its workers busy filling propane for heating and BBQs. And he hopes the good weather translates into more homeowners working on their D-I-Y projects.
Neuwirth says everyone is asked to wear a mask when entering the store. Curbside pickup of propane refills is available. Taylor Rental will also pick up your empty tank, refill it and return it the same day, Monday through Friday.
Additional donations to the Business Aid: Berkeley Heights campaign will be accepted at the store on Friday and Saturday. Donations can be made by check or by Paypal or Venmo - @BHBC-2020 (4 digits: 7499). Checks should be made out to Berkeley Heights Business and Civic, "Business Aid: Berkeley Heights" in the memo.
