The New Providence High School Marching Band took first place in the USBands New Jersey State Group 6A Championship on Wednesday night with an outstanding performance of their 2019 show, Light Prevails. Despite light rain and a rescheduled performance, the band lived to its motto, "Pride and Class," scoring 89.22 and winning special caption awards for Best Color Guard, Best Music, and Best Overall Effect.  

The New Jersey State Championships took place on Wednesday, October 30 after downpours canceled the competition the previous Sunday. Originally scheduled to be at The College of New Jersey, the championships took place at Hillsborough High School.  New Providence edged out Hunterdon Central Regional High School and Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School for the title. 

The 144 member New Providence band is led by Music Director Michael Niedziejko and Assistant Music Director Donald Baker.  2019 Drum Majors are Mia Fusillo and Alyssa DeMarco, with Sergeants-At-Arms Rinda Hyde, Ethan Neidich, Cherie Ma, Alice Smith, and Ian Zane.  Section leaders include Brass Captain Matthew Fusillo, Woodwind Captain Charlotte Lin, Percussion Captain Christopher Rowe and Color Guard Captains Hannah Giedraitis, Emma Giedraitis, Kiana Barbarisi, and Kylie Burton.  Soloists include Charlotte Lin on flute, Daniel Aranda on tenor saxophone, and Erikson Sandaire on alto saxophone. 

The Pride and Class will compete in USBands Group 6A Nationals Championships on Saturday, November 2 at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, PA.
