NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - A generous partnership between New Providence and a Basking Ridge based nonprofit group, Feed to Give, raised more than $1300 on Wednesday, May 13, to benefit the new nonprofit New Providence- Our Community For All. Over 200 community members purchased 10 pound bags of boneless and skinless chicken breasts at a discounted price of $20 ($2 per lb) per bag. Out of popular demand, the event will be repeated on June 3, 2020.

Feed to Give was founded by Ridge High School junior Carys Law and she hopes these recent fundraisers are just the beginning for Feed to Give. She plans to develop the group as a student-led organization, and hopes to work toward a 501(c)3 nonprofit designation.

With the full support of her father, Simon Law, owner of Lawson Foods, a wholesale food distributor, Carys took her idea and began to partner with local nonprofits to sell chicken at a great price, and let the profits go to local food banks and nonprofits in the local New Jersey communities. The volunteers deliver the remaining supply of chicken and produce to the local food bank after each event. They plan to continue to deliver chicken on a weekly basis in local communities.

“It just made sense,” said Carys. “It was the right thing to do.”   She works the events herself, with her whole family.  They were all present in New Providence on Wednesday, where about 200 families received their pre-paid orders for chicken quickly and easily.

Also making the process run smoothly were volunteers from New Providence- Our Community For All and from the New Providence Lions Club.  “We were pleased and surprised to see how organized this whole operation was working with Feed to Give,” said New Providence-Our Community For All Executive Director, Patricia Jacobs. “Things ran like clockwork.”

And the product is receiving rave reviews.  Before the event was even over, volunteers were getting phone calls from people who had gotten their chicken and taken it home.  One buyer said, “I was so pleased with the chicken breasts when I got them home! They are bigger than I expected and look wonderful.”

"Thank you to the former Mayor of Bernards Township and now current President of Bernards Township Regional Chamber of Commerce Al LiCata for helping us bring this great initiative to our community," said Mayor Al Morgan. "Thank you to all who helped, volunteered, and participated. We look forward to our next event on Wednesday, June 3rd."

New Providence- Our Community For All was founded to help New Providence become a Lifelong Town. Their focus is on listening to adults in New Providence about their hopes and needs for living long and full lives in town.  Other projects the group is working on include collecting 300 audio interviews with long-time residents to create an audio archive to celebrate the 300th Anniversary of New Providence’s founding.  And they are sponsoring an art installation in Centennial Park for Flag Day, June 14th.  The installation will be made up of individual flags made by New Providence residents, families, teams and groups. Flags are free!
